William "Bill" Fromer
Mr. Fromer, 84, of Long Branch, died June 11, 2007, at Monmouth Medical Center, Long Branch. Born in Buenos Aires, Argentina, he moved to Brooklyn, N.Y., when he was 2 years old, and resided in Long Branch and Deal prior to relocating to Long Branch 20 years ago. He was a mutual clerk at Monmouth Park, Oceanport, from 1947 until he retired in 1988. He also worked on the original construction of the racetrack, and owned Shore Tool Supply Company, Long Branch. He was a union delegate for AFL-CIO Sports Arena Employees 137, the Monmouth Ocean Central Labor Council; and was a member of Laborers International Union of America. He served with the U.S. Army during World War II. He was a D-Day survivor and recipient of the Distinguished Service Medal. He was predeceased by his wife of 41 years, Kathryn, in 1994. He is survived by three children, Cynthia Fromer of New York, Richard Fromer of Long Branch, and Bruce and Joan Patten Fromer of Allenhurst; a sister-in-law, Frances Riddle; his companion of 12 years, Rose Cece; and three grandchildren. Dolores "Teeny" Peterson Mauro
Mrs. Mauro, 74, of Monmouth Beach, died June 15, 2007, at St. Barnabas Hospice and Palliative Care Center, Long Branch. Born in Long Branch, she was a lifelong resident of Monmouth Beach. She was a homemaker. She was a communicant of Church of The Precious Blood, Monmouth Beach. She was a member of the Ladies Auxiliary of the Monmouth Beach Fire Department. She is survived by her husband of 53 years, Peter A. Mauro Jr., three sons and two daughters-in-law, Anthony and Carol Mauro of Colts Neck, Perry Mauro of Robbinsville, and Nicholas and Cheryl Mauro of Freehold; a brother, Edwin O. Peterson of the Lincroft section of Middletown; and four grandchildren. A Mass of Christian Burial was celebrated at Our Lady Star of the Sea Roman Catholic Church, Long Branch. Interment was at Woodbine Cemetery, Oceanport. Anthony "Tony S." Scalzo
Mr. Scalzo, 81, of Rumson, died June 7, 2007, at Meridian Nursing & Rehabilitation, Red Bank. Born in Rumson, he was a lifelong resident. He was a clerk and letter carrier for the U.S. Postal Service, Rumson, from age 14 until retirement. He also served as a shop steward while involved in the postal union, and owned Tony's Signs, Rumson, for several years. He was a devout Roman Catholic and supported several local Catholic churches. He was a life member of the Oceanic Hook & Ladder Fire Company, Rumson. He was predeceased by his wife, Mary P. Scalzo. He is survived by a son, Frank A. Scalzo of Fair Haven; a daughter, Cathie C. Scalzo of Fair Haven; three brothers and two sisters-in-law, William and June "Peggy" Scalzo, James and Evelyn Scalzo, and Samuel Scalzo, all of Rumson; three sisters and one brother-in-law, Concetta Orechio of Long Branch, Mary Calabretta of Rumson, and Barbara and William Boccellato of the River Plaza section of Middletown; and several nieces and nephews. A Mass of Christian Burial was celebrated at Church of the Nativity, Fair Haven. Interment was at Mount Olivet Cemetery, Middletown. Arrangements were by John E. Day Funeral Home, Red Bank.
