Green Acres swap a loss for residents

Last March 22, your executive editor Gregory Bean wrote an eloquent editorial. It said that Communist China was ahead of Long Branch in terms of preserving the rights of homeowners against eminent domain abuse. He was right.

By adopting Resolution 130-07, the Long Branch city elected officials are once again disregarding the well-being of the citizens and not preserving our rights.

They choose to lose one of our most treasured assets, which will have a detrimental impact on our quality of life.

This recreational space has been cherished by people of all ages who walk/jog/ride bikes along the roadway and breathe the clean/fresh salt air. For over 20 years, the Green Acres Program protected us from the annoyance of blaring car radios and deafening motorcycle pipes and from breathing the pollutants emitted from cars - not to mention the chance of being hit by an impaired driver.

Make no mistake about it. The whole world is watching Long Branch. To all those who are against this resolution - make your voice heard. We have to win this fight. Not to oppose error is to approve it. Not to confront error is to encourage it.
