Obituaries

Olga Mulvey Hoff

Mrs. Hoff, 95, of Long Branch, died March 14, 2007, at St. Barnabas Hospice and Palliative Care at Monmouth Medical Center, Long Branch, following a brief illness. Born in Newark, she resided there prior to relocating to Long Branch. She was employed in retail sales for department stores, as a Welcome Wagon hostess, and as an assembler at Electronic Associates Inc., Oceanport, prior to retirement. She was an inspector on the assembly line at Grumman Avenger Naval Aircraft during World War II, and was awarded a Rosie the Riveter Certificate for her service. She was a parishioner at St. Mark's Episcopal Church, Newark, and was actively involved in St. James Episcopal Church, Long Branch. She was a former assistant Girl Scout leader. Her memberships included Long Branch Historical Society, the Long Branch Women's Club, Oceanport Garden Club and the Holland Society of New York. She was a supporter of Clean Ocean Action and North Long Branch Community Center. She was an avid gardener and tennis player. She was predeceased by her first husband, Eugene Mulvey; her husband, Nelson Hoff; and a brother, Kenneth Cadmus. She is survived by a daughter and son-in-law, Marina Mulvey Christopher and Gregory J. Christopher of West Long Branch; a sister, Helen Davidson; a stepson and his wife, Richard and Ann Hoff of Foley, Ala.; two grandsons; two great-granddaughters; a step-granddaughter; a sister-in-law; and several nieces and nephews. A funeral service was held at St. James Church. Interment was at Woodbine Cemetery, Oceanport. Arrangements were by Damiano Funeral Home, Long Branch. Kenneth D. Owens

Mr. Owens, 49, of Middletown, died May 12, 2007, in Keansburg. Born in Jersey City, he resided in Middletown most of his life. He was a manager at Keansburg Amusement Park for several years. He was predeceased by his parents, Dolores and Robert Owens; and a brother, Ronald Owens. He is survived by his wife, Maryann Owens; two sons, Eric Owens of Middletown, and Kenny Owens of New Brunswick; three brothers and two sisters-in-law, Glenn and Carol Owens of Nickelson, Pa., Bruce and Kathi Owens of Long Branch, and Kevin Owens of Bayville; four sisters and brothers-in-law, Dianne and Timmy Delk of Freehold, Debbie and Tommy Dyer of Middletown, Janet and John Poling of Union Beach, and Kelly and John Blair of York, Pa.; and several nieces and nephews.

Bruno G. Torchia

Mr. Torchia, 95, of West Long Branch, died May 11, 2007, at home. Born in Calabria, Italy, he came to the United States in 1928 and resided in Long Branch prior to relocating to West Long Branch in 1955. He was a plant manager at A. Hollander & Son, Newark, for 40 years, retiring 30 years ago. He was a parishioner of St. Jerome's Roman Catholic Church, West Long Branch. He was a member of Amerigo Vespucci and the Long Branch Old Guard. He was predeceased by his wife, Josephine Foggia Torchia in 2004; a son, Thomas J. Torchia in 1998; a brother, Joseph Torchia; and a sister, Rose Fabiano. He is survived by two daughters, Rae Marsico of Eatontown and Angela Pfeiffer of Oakhurst section of Ocean Township; a brother and sister-in-law, Frank and Anna Marie Torchia of Long Branch; a sister, Maria Todaro of Italy; five grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren. A Mass of Christian Burial was celebrated at St. Jerome's Church. Interment was at Mount Carmel Cemetery, West Long Branch. Arrangements were by Damiano Funeral Home, Long Branch.
