MRHS school budget passed by slim margin

TINTON FALLS - - Voters approved the 2007-08 spending plan of $18.4 million for Monmouth Regional High School by a margin of less than 50 votes.

Voters in the district voted on a tax levy of $18,427,809, a 4 percent increase over last year. The regional school district is comprised of three towns: Eatontown, Tinton Falls and Shrewsbury Township.

The owner of a house in Eatontown valued at $200,000 will see an increase of 2 cents per $100 of assessed valuation, or $47.80 annually; Tinton Falls homeowners will see an increase of 3 cents or $54.90 a year and Shrewsbury Township taxpayers will see a 14-cent increase, or $286.40 annually.

There was no contest for seats on the Monmouth Regional School District's Board of Education which includes four Eatontown seats, four Tinton Falls seats and one representing Shrewsbury Township.

All the candidates are incumbents: John Schiels, Thomas Neff and Tony Schaible.
