Long Branch Historical Association
The seven railroad lines that once served Long Branch will be the topic of the Long Branch Historical Association meeting April 25 at 7:30 p.m. at city hall on Broadway. Guest speaker Gary Crawford will present a talk about the four steam lines and three trolley lines that once traveled to the city. The meeting is free and open to the public

Big Brothers Big Sisters of Monmouth County will host its eighth annual Gourmet Food and Wine Tasting at the Metcalf Estate in Rumson on Monday, May 14, at 6:30 p.m.

Proceeds from the event will support the one-to-one mentoring programs so that children are matched with a caring adult who assists them in coping with life's challenges and reaching their highest potential.

The event will feature tastings from Cask 591 in Long Branch, Lusty Lobster in Rumson, Sallee Tee's in Monmouth Beach and Two If By Sea, in Red Bank.

The event is a partnership between Big Brothers Big Sisters and the VNA of Central NJ, which is hosting a monthlong Stately Homes by the Sea show house fundraiser. For the BBBS Food and Wine Tasting, a tour of the home is included in the $75 ticket price for the first hour of the evening.

The PTA of Pope John XXIII Regional Catholic School, Ocean Township, will host the annual Spring Luncheon and Gift Auction April 29 at the Old Orchard Country Club in Eatontown. Over 100 baskets will be auctioned. Tickets are $40 , $30 for seniors and $25 for children 14 and under. The first Monmouth Beach Shana Wasserman 3-Mile Memorial Run will be held Saturday, May 12. Registration will begin at 8 a.m. at Griffin Street Memorial Park and the run will begin at 9 a.m. There is a $15 pre-entry fee; $20 on race day. Kids' races will take place at 9:45 a.m., with a pre-entry fee of $10, $15 on race day. The Dolphin Mile for ages 14 and under will go off at 10 a.m.; $10 pre-entry fee, $15 on race day. The Center in Asbury Park will hold its 14th annual Center a la Carte fundraiser Friday, May 4, beginning at 7 p.m., at The Church of St. Anselm, Wayside. Tickets are $75. Over 25 restaurants and vendors will showcase their fabulous fare and signature sips and there will be a silent auction and 50/50 raffle. Only 500 tickets will be sold. The Jersey Shore Running Club presented the proceeds from the Navesink Challenge and the Pier Village 5K races to Habitat for Humanity of Long Branch on March 20. A total of $5,974 was raised from both races to benefit Habitat's Long Branch chapter, which began in 1993 as an affiliate of Habitat for Humanity International.

The third annual Pier Village 5K race was held in September on the Long Branch beachfront and raised $2,000. The sixth annual Navesink Challenge was held at Bodman Park in Middletown in November and raised over $3,900. For more information visit www.jsrc.org or call (732) 542-6090.

Holy Trinity Church in Long Branch will host a social/ballroom dance for all ages, April 21 from 8-11 p.m. in the parish hall on Prospect Street. General admission is $10 and includes light refreshments and dancing to the music of DJ Andrew. Professional instructors will be offering lessons in ballroom dancing from 7-8 p.m. for $5. The Long Branch Free Public Library is selling tote bags for $10 and all proceeds will benefit the library. The bags are on sale at the main library on Broadway and the Elberon Branch on Lincoln Avenue. For the first 200 bags purchased, a $10 coupon for the library's book sale will be included in the sale. The Greater Long Branch Chamber of Commerce's upcoming Business After Hours on April 25 will feature a presentation, "Keys to Business Success," by business coach Chris Ruisi.
