Apo, Fitzgerald are Shore Players of the Year
Apo, a senior who lives in Howell, brought the Lancers to prominence in 2006-07 behind her sparkling all-around play. She averaged 18 points a game to lead the offense and was just as valuable on defense, averaging 3.0 assists a game. Both ranked among the Shore leaders, as did Apo's 32 three-pointers. The Lancers were tri-champions of the A Central Division. Fitzgerald was a double-double machine for the Bucs every night. He averaged 19 points and 10 caroms a game in leading Red Bank to the A Central Division title. Rumson-Fair Haven's George Sourlis and Freehold Township's Brian Golub were each named Shore Coach of the Year.
Golub led the Patriots to a school first, the Shore Conference Tournament championship. They also won the A North Division title and lost the Central Jersey Group IV final to South Brunswick. They were 25-2 and No. 1 in the Shore. Apo heads up the Shore Coaches' First Team with Red Bank Catholic's Kristina Danella, Rumson's Kate Miller, Manchester's Alexis Valmon and Neptune's Cyialece Davis rounding out the first five. Colts Neck's Brooke Hampton heads the Second Team with Alyssa Mayrose and Shannon Mayrose of Freehold Borough, Shareece Richardson of Neptune and RBC's Jenna Strich. Fitzgerald and Freehold Township's Eddie Fischer and T.J. LaFalce topped the Boys First Team selections. St. Rose's Anthony Ranaudo and Neptune's Michael Olgelsby round out the unit. The Shore Coaches also named their All-Division Teams. In boys A North, Fischer, LaFalce and teammate Marcus Roberson were First Team, along with Colts Neck's duo of Brian Baker and Steve Spinella. Second Team picks were Justin Schwartz, Brian Neller and Mike Kuhn of Christian Brothers Academy, Manalapan's Jason Goldheimer, Middletown North's Matt Holly and Middletown South's Garrett Thiel. Player of the Year Fitzgerald leads the A Central First Team with SJV's Eric Johannesen, Raritan's Will Atkinson, Holmdel's Matt Kelly and RBR's Casey Peters rounding out the first five. Second Team selections were SJV's Mike Spinelli, Manasquan's Corey Lee, Raritan's Anthony Liantonio, Rumson-Fair Haven's Kyle Phelan and RBC's Andrew Walsh. The A South First Team picks were: Lacey's Sean McAndrew, Toms River East's Tyler Fox, Brick Memorial's Mike Gawronski, Southern's Brett Behrens and Toms River South's Sean MacIntosh. Second Teamers were Brick Township's F.J. Lucchetti, Brick Memorial's Colin Pryzbrylowski, Toms River North's Charles Kelly, TRE's Rob Urie and Brick Township's Tom Paterno. Shore First Teamer Olgelsby heads the B North First Team with teammate Gary Foster. Monmouth's Brandon Cohen and Joe Willman and Long Branch's Ray Nieves are the other First Team picks. Freehold Borough's Brandon Carter, Wall's Blaine Reeher and Jordan Young, Long Branch's Dante Gilliard and Monmouth's Derrick Pruitt make up the Second Team. B Central First Team had All-Shore pick Ranaudo and Eric Lenahan of Point Pleasant Beach, Gary Knoeppel of Shore, Darryl Jefferson of Asbury Park and Brian Muradi of Henry Hudson. Keansburg duo of Andrew Carusotto and Josh Vital lead the Second Team, joined by Asbury Park's John Romero, Shore's Eric Swinton and Henry Hudson's Brian Olofson. B South First Team features two players from Point Boro - Sean Hughes and Matt Puorro - and a pair from Monsignor Donovan - Kyle Milano and Nick Lopez. The fifth place is Manchester's Terrell Lee. Second Team members are Paul Batrony of Monsignor Donovan, Marvin Brodie of Manchester, Eric Franklin of Lakewood, Ricardo Ferguson of Barnegat and Paul Huch of Pinelands. Brooke Hampton, probably the top freshman in the Shore this winter, heads the A North First Team with teammate Lauren Clarke, also a frosh. Marlboro's Meghan Reilly, Howell's Michelle Blum and Middletown South's Brittany Hoffman were the other top selections in the division. Second Team picks were Denise Crudup and Erin Donahue of Howell, Jennifer Mocanu of Middletown North, and five from division champion Middletown South, Danielle Pankey, Christina Longo, Courtney Herring, Shealynn Taggart and Julie Gannon. A Central First Team is loaded with the All-Shore picks Apo, Danella, Strich and Miller. The fifth member of the team is RBR's Deanna Mendelson. Second Team picks were SJV's Katelyn Linney, Rumson's Candice Green, Holmdel's Kim Fiorentino, Manasquan's Ryan McGrath and Raritan's Alexa Ryan. April Smith and Olivia Tromm, who helped Southern win the division title, lead the A South First Team joined by Jackson's Justine Stevenson, TRN's Lori Lidlow and Lacey's Amanda Malkiewicz. Second Team went to TRE's Lesley Macchiaverna and Krissy Wolf, Southern's Lauren Tromm, Jackson's Tamara Copes, TRS's Amanda Altman and Lacey's Stephanie Mayfield. B North has its share of All-Shore picks with Freehold Borough's Mayrose sisters, Alyssa and Shannon, and Neptune's Davis. Monmouth's Tia Curtis and Wall's Christina Kilmurray made up the other First Team honorees. Second Team went to Shareese Richardson and Taleisa Brown of Neptune, Brittney Powell of Monmouth, Sehmonyeh Allen of Freehold Borough and Victoria Webber of Ocean. In Central, Kelly Clark of St. Rose, Faith Flannery of Keansburg, Sabrino Kemp of Keyport, Pauline Robinson of Point Pleasant Beach and Ryan Killeen of Mater Dei were the first unit. Second Team mention went to Lauren Florio of Mater Dei, Lauren Crehan of St. Rose, Bianco Russo of Point Beach, Elizabeth West of Shore and Kim Cassarello of Keansburg. Valmon is the standout on the B South First Team. Kristen Haycook of Point Boro, Valmon's teammate Cherrika Minnigan, Natalie Garbie of Monsignor Donovan and Kayty Grissler of Point Boro made up the Second Team.
