Resident reports bear sighting

OCEAN TOWNSHIP - On March 21 at 3:45 p.m., township police received a report that a bear was sighted in the wooded area behind the senior residence on Stacey Drive in the Hidden Meadows complex.

Officer Luke Sciallo responded and met with the resident of Stacey Drive who advised the officer that when he was leaving his apartment, he thought he saw a large black dog at the wood line between buildings 100 and 200 on Stacey Drive.

When the animal turned to walk back into the woods, the resident said, he realized that it was a bear. He described the animal as a black bear, approximately 200-250 pounds and over 6 feet if it stood up.

The area was checked and the bear was not located. Anyone sighting the bear is advised to immediately contact the Ocean Township police and not approach the bear.
