Suspect indicted for armed robbery
BY CHRISTINE VARNO
Staff Writer

LONG BRANCH - A city man was charged last week for armed robbery of an Asbury Park store owner.

On March 14, a Monmouth County Grand Jury indicted Adrian Malik Miller, 24, for the August robbery of a food store on Main Street in Asbury Park.

Miller is being charged with armed robbery, possession of a firearm, certain persons not to have a firearm and acquiring a firearm without a permit, according to a press release from the Monmouth County Prosecutor's Office.

If convicted of armed robbery, Miller faces a maximum sentence of 20 years imprisonment, according to the release.

The next court proceeding will be an arraignment to be scheduled within 45 days of March 14, according to the release.

Miller is currently being held at the Monmouth County Correctional Institution in Freehold in lieu of $430,000 bail, according to reports.

On Aug. 15 at approximately 6:04 p.m., the Asbury Park Police Department responded to a 911 call reporting a possible robbery, according to reports.

Upon arrival, police learned that a man had entered the store and during the purchase of an item allegedly pointed a handgun at the store owner and demanded money, according to police.

The store owner attempted to grab the handgun. A struggle ensued and the gun discharged three time, according to reports.

The accused then fled the store, leaving the gun and one of his sneakers behind, according to reports.

A short distance away, police located Miller with a single sneaker on that matched the one left behind and a gunshot wound to the abdomen, police said.
