Four arrests follow motor vehicle stop

LONG BRANCH - A city man and three out-of-town women are facing drug and weapons charges after a motor vehicle stop March 9.

According to police, they observed a vehicle that failed to stop at a posted stop sign at approximately 1:50 a.m. on Division Street. During the motor vehicle stop, officers observed four people in the car and recognized one of the back-seat passengers as Leonard Wade, 27, of Long Branch, according to police.

Police said Officer Brendan Cahill was aware that Wade had multiple outstanding warrants for his arrest and removed him the vehicle, according to reports.

While removing Wade, Cahill allegedly observed a clear plastic baggy on one of the back seats filled with approximately 40 small white pills, suspected to be ecstasy, according to reports.

Another officer at the scene, Brian Garrett, also reportedly observed the handle of a handgun under the rear passenger seat of the car, which was found to be loaded with two bullets, according to reports.

Police arrested Wade; Rachel Cutler, 22, Lakewood; and Cynthia Gonzalez, 23, and Sharon Hicks, 30, both of Keansburg.

All four are facing charges of: possession of a CDS, possession of a CDS in a school zone, possession with intent to distribute, unlawful possession of a weapon and unlawful possession of a weapon while committing a CDS offense,.

Bail was set for Wade and Gonzalez at $30,000 with no 10 percent option. Bail was set at $30,000 for Cutler and Hicks with a 10 percent option, according to reports.

Police seized the 1997 Dodge Intrepid which was registered to Gonzalez and seized approximately $900 in cash, according to reports.
