Follow the Yellow Brick Road to success on tests

LONG BRANCH - - The students and parents of Morris Avenue School were "off to see the wizard" Tuesday, Feb. 13. The grades K-2 school was decorated and transformed into Munchkin land with Dorothy, Scarecrow, Tin Man and the Cowardly Lion heading straight for the Emerald City.

Parents and students were given a grid with coordinates of various places in Munchkin Land and at every stop, parents learned about N.J. Core Curriculum Standards for math, reading and language arts.

Students helped Dorothy get to the wizard on time by making and learning about clocks. They helped the scarecrow find his reading and writing brain as they learned how to write a picture and poetry prompt. No one was afraid of the Cowardly Lion, who was busy conquering fractions. Students enjoyed helping the Tin Man measure and make solid shapes with marshmallows and rulers.

And, of course, the Wizard was there helping students tally and graph coins. Glinda the Good Witch flew in just in time to help the Munchkins color beautiful patterns. A fun time was had by all and the students of Morris Avenue are ready to follow the yellow brick road to test success on March 19-23.
