Charles O. Burton

Mr. Burton, 71, of Cullowhee, N.C., and formerly Ocean Township, died Feb. 5, 2007, following a lengthy illness. Born in Independence, Kan., he relocated to New Jersey in 1960. He was director of the instructional development laboratory at Brookdale Community College, Lincroft section of Middletown, and ran his own commercial art business, Images III. Prior to that, he taught art at Shore Regional High School, West Long Branch, and ran an art supply store. He served with the U.S. Army from 1954-57, and was stationed in Germany in the Engineering Corps. He was an elder in the Presbyterian Church, USA, and taught senior high Sunday School at the Presbyterian Church in Asbury Park. He was predeceased by a daughter, Bonnie Sue; a sister, Gladys Elaine Daniel; and a brother, Gerald Orval Burton. He is survived by his wife of 44 years, Rev. Sue Burton; a daughter and son-in-law, Marilyn Sue and Brian Chamberlin of Cullowhee, N.C.; two brothers and sisters-in-law, Richard and Anne Burton of Ocean Township, and Dale and Betty Bass of Phoenix; and a granddaughter. Arrangements were by Moody Funeral Home, Sylva, N.C. Memorial donations may be made to Director of Annual and Special Giving at Western Carolina University, Cullowhee, NC 28723.

Alfonse Russomanno

Mr. Russomanno, 85, of Eatontown, died March 7, 2007, at St. Barnabas Hospice Unit at Monmouth Medical Center, Long Branch. Born in Newark, he resided in Bloomfield prior to relocating to Eatontown in 1991. He was a tax assessor for the City of Newark for 25 years, retiring in 1991. He served with the U.S. Army during World War II from 1943-46. He attended St. James Roman Catholic Church, Red Bank. He was a member of the Italian Americans of Asbury Park. He is survived by his wife of 60 years, Catherine; a daughter and son-in-law, Karen and Jack Majdan of Eatontown; and a sister, Fanny Bracciforte of Cedar Knolls. A Mass of Christian Burial was celebrated at St. James Church. Arrangements were by Thompson Memorial Home, Red Bank. Memorial donations may be made to SPHPCC at Monmouth Medical Center, 300 Second Ave., Long Branch 07740.

Hugh Gordon Blake

Mr. Blake, 81, of Fair Haven, died Feb. 28, 2007, at Riverview Medical Center, Red Bank. Born in Newton, Mass., he resided in Long Island, N.Y., prior to relocating to Fair Haven. He was a plant administrator at Lily Tulip Company, Holmdel, for 36 years, retiring in 1983. He was a past warden and head usher at The Episcopal Church of the Holy Communion, Fair Haven. He was a 33-year Life Member of Fair Haven Volunteer Fire Company. He was also a life member of the Fair Haven Fire Police, and past president and secretary of the Fair Haven-Rumson Lions Club. He coached Fair Haven baseball, and volunteered at Riverview Medical Center 10 years. He is survived by his wife of 52 yeas, Joan; two sons and daughters-in-law, William and Leslie Blake of Scituate, Mass., and James and Jill Blake of West Long Branch; two brothers and one sister-in-law, Ross and Marcia Blake of Ofallon, Ill., and Gael Blake of West Palm Beach, Fla.; and four grandchildren. A funeral service was held at The Episcopal Church of the Holy Communion. Arrangements were by Thompson Memorial Home, Red Bank. Memorial donations may be made to Fair Haven Fire Department or Fair Haven Fire Police, River Road, Fair Haven 07704.
