Sports Shorts A local rowing organization, Navesink River Rowing, sent six youth competitors and its very own Masters rower, Coach Bill Scholtz, to the CRASH-B World Indoor Rowing Championship in Boston on Sunday Feb. 25. Coach Scholtz of Middletown (a member of the Brown University 1979 Varsity Eight, which won the Intercollegiate Rowing Association Championship) showed his young rowers how to do it, setting a blistering pace of 6:51.8 in the Senior Mens division. In the Open Womens division, Emily Crosby, a senior at Red Bank Catholic, rowed an impressive 7:33.9. This score was a personal record for the Notre Dame-bound Crosby, despite moving up in class and competing against world-ranked athletes and collegiate rowers. In the Junior Mens division, Greg Charte, a junior at Shore Regional, led the way with a solid 6:58. First-time erg competitor Max Kenny-Little, a sophomore at Toms River North, posted a 7:13.3. In the Junior Womens event, Kathryn Lowry, a junior at the Ranney School, posted 7:42.1. Teammate Kate Rennie, also a junior at Ranney, finished at a personal record 8:19. Newcomer Dominique Blount, a sophomore at Red Bank Catholic, notched 8:34.7.
