Thanks to those who helped fire victims As residents of the Fountains condominiums in Sea Bright, my husband and I want to thank the many people and agencies that came to our aid on Monday morning, Feb. 5, when we awoke to a fire of unimaginable ferocity. First, our own residents who were calm and caring for their neighbors, supporting one another and making sure everyone was safe and secure. Second, the firemen, EMS crews, police and support groups. Their prompt response and heroic actions made sure everyone was evacuated and taken care of. We will never forget the faces of these brave men and women fighting this horrendous blaze, hour after hour, as we watched them battle the smoke, the intense heat, the freezing cold, and the constant fire outbreaks. Miraculously, they were able to keep the fire from leaping to the sister building where we live. Kudos to our management company, Hearthstone and Kathy Winch, for being on the scene and attending to all the issues. We also salute our neighbors in Yacht Harbor, who opened their hearts and homes to us as we watched our friends' homes go up in flames. Their generosity (coffee, tea, sandwiches, visits to the "loo" and just a place to hug and cry) was so appreciated. Thanks to the American Red Cross which set up in the municipal building with food, beverages, pet cages, supplies and other support such as accommodations at the Holiday Inn and financial assistance, followed up with "How are you doing?" calls. Lastly, the little hamlet of Sea Bright. This is truly a town that takes care of its own. Mayor Joanne Kalaka-Adams and Councilwoman Maria Fernandes reached out with advice and guidance for everyone. Donovan's, McLoone's, Dunkin' Donuts, Andy K's, Michael Angelo's, and Sally T's made sure all were well fed. If we missed anyone, we are truly sorry.
