Alborada to perform in 'Celtic Connection'
The Pollak Theatre at Monmouth University, 400 Cedar Ave., West Long Branch, will present the Alborada Spanish Dance Theatre in a performance of "The Celtic Connection" at 8 p.m. on Feb. 24.
The cross-cultural program will illustrate Celtic influences on Spain and Ireland. Performers will include the entire Alborada company, the Niall O'Leary Irish Dance Troupe, featured artists from Centro Oresano (a New Jersey-based cultural group that performs Celtic-influenced Northern Spanish dances and music) and the Irish band Coolmagort.

Entries now taken for Celebrate NJ contest
Celebrate NJ, Bradley Beach, is accepting entries for its 2007 poster contest with entry deadline March 31. Grand prize is $500.
Posters must address one or more reasons to celebrate New Jersey, in keeping with Celebrate NJ's "365 Reasons to Celebrate NJ" The winning entry will become the official 2007 Celebrate NJ poster, and designs will also be featured as part of a media and advertising campaign. The top three winners will receive cash prizes, and nine other entries will receive honorable mentions.
Celebrate NJ also invites individuals with a reason to celebrate New Jersey to visit www.celebratenj.org and enter the reason. No deadlines have been set, and reasons are being released on a monthly basis. Entry cards are also available at area libraries.
The best 365 reasons will be published as part of an advertising and media campaign.

Celebration of leaders in black history Feb. 28
The Community YMCA Black Achievers program, Red Bank, will celebrate leaders in black history at an event Feb. 28 from 6:30-8 p.m. at the Children's Cultural Center, 51 Monmouth St., Red Bank.
Keynote speaker will be former Attorney General of New Jersey, Peter C. Harvey. The event will also feature projects and readings by teen students in the Black Achievers program. The initiative is a program for students in grades six through 12 that focuses on character development, educational success and introducing youth to positive role models.

Talks at SCAN Learning Center during March
Roy M. Dressner, D.O., colon and rectal surgery at Monmouth Medical Center, Long Branch, will present "Colorectal Cancer Prevention: What You Need to Know" March 7 from 1-3 p.m. at SCAN Learning Center, Monmouth Mall, Eatontown.
The showcase, "To Your Health" in recognition of National Colorectal Cancer Awareness Month will be March 14 from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. "Move Today - Exercise and Getting Fit" will be presented by Carol Palmer, Monmouth Medical Center special program instructor, March 21 from 1-3 p.m.
