Boro swears in new officer

The West Long Branch Police Department sworn in its 21st police officer Jan. 17 Borough Council meeting.

Brian C. Burton, 22, of Colts Neck, began his police career as a Class II Special Law Enforcement Officer in June of 2005 for the Borough of Belmar.

In July 2006, Burton worked full time as a Special Police Officer for the Borough of Oceanport filling a vacancy created by the absence of an injured officer.

Burton will begin attendance at the Monmouth County Police Academy in late January to fulfill the requirements of his appointment as a full-time patrolman for West Long Branch. This attendance may be abbreviated due to the extent of Burton's present certifications and training.

He will be assigned to the department's Patrol Division, serving with a Field Training Officer.
