Bridge replacement a DOT boondoggle

In St. Augustine, Fla., the town demanded repairs instead of replacement of their historic drawbridge, and they got it.

The plan in St. Augustine is to erect a temporary drawbridge right alongside the old one. Then they'll close the old bridge for repairs.

When the repairs are complete, they're going to dismantle the temporary drawbridge.

The cost is $76 million, which is less than what the state Departament of Transportation wants to spend building their monstrosity at the Twin Lights site.

In St. Augustine, the citizens are getting the facts - there's even an official Web site providing the details. It's www.fdotbridgeoflions.com.

Instead of spending any more time interviewing the superintendent of Sandy Hook, who clearly knows nothing about bridge engineering, maybe you can find out from the DOT why they're refusing to establish a dedicated Web site to provide us with the facts about their planned Highlands-Sea Bright Drawbridge boondoggle.
