Drug arrests follow police investigation

LONG BRANCH - A monthlong investigation by the Community Response Unit of the city police department concluded last week with the arrest of a city couple.

Eliezer Velez, 30, and Carmen Rodriguez, 25, were arrested on Dec. 21 after city police executed a search warrant at their West End Court home, according to police reports.

According to police, they recovered more than a half-pound of marijuana and a half-ounce of cocaine from the residence.

Both accused are being charged with possession of cocaine and marijuana, possession with intent to distribute, possession with intent to distribute in a school zone, possession within 500 feet of a park, possession of drug paraphernalia and the use of a police scanner during a crime, according to reports.

Velez and Rodriguez were released on summonses.
