Fort MLK observance Jan. 11

Maj. Gen. (retired) Robert L. Nabors, former commanding general of the U.S. Army Communications Electronics Command and Fort Monmouth from 1998 to 2001, will be the keynote speaker at an observance honoring Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. at the Fort Monmouth Post Chapel Jan. 11 from 9:30-11 a.m.

Nabors was the first African American to hold the fort's top post. He is currently the client executive with Electronic Data Systems Corp., Government Solutions. Nabors was awarded the NAACP Roy Wilkins Award of Renown 2000 and is a member of the U.S. Army Officer Candidate School Hall of Fame.

The Monmouth Regional High School Sounds of Joy Gospel Choir will provide inspirational music at the observance.

The Fort Monmouth Garrison Office of Equal Employment Opportunity is hosting the observance, based on the theme, "Remember! Celebrate! Act! A Day On, Not a Day Off."
