Children hurt in school bus accident

OCEAN TOWNSHIP - One student suffered a broken nose and four others had minor complaints after a school bus accident Feb. 26 at 8:37 a.m.

According to Ocean Township police, the school bus was traveling east on West Park Avenue in front of the Ocean Township Intermediate School. As the school bus attempted to slow down to turn into the Ocean Township Intermediate School main driveway, the rear end of the bus slid out of control, striking a utility pole.

The driver of the bus, Lewis M. Dorick Jr., 76, of Ocean Township, proceeded to pull into the front entrance of the school allowing all the juveniles off the school bus, and drove back to the bus yard.

The school principal was notified and advised that all 18 students who were on the school bus were sent down to the school nurse for a medical evaluation.

Police said that the bus driver did not notify police until after he returned to the bus yard. He was issued a summons for careless driving and leaving the scene of an accident.
