Local teams chase tourney titles

| Local hoops teams are busy this week, playing in a variety of holiday tournaments.
On the boys’ side, Monmouth Regional opened its bid for a Neptune Holiday Jubilee title yesterday with a game against Irvington, while both the Rumson-Fair Haven and Shore Regional boys played in the Bayshore Holiday Tournament’s first round at St. John Vianney, with RFH facing Middletown North, and Shore playing Mater Dei. The host Red Bank Regional Bucs faced Howell in the first round of the Buc Holiday Classic, while RBC traveled to Summit to face Madison in the Oratory Catholic Prep Tournament.
Ocean Township’s boys were set to play Lacey in a consolation game at the WOBM Tournament in Toms River yesterday.
On the girls’ side, Red Bank Catholic tipped off against Council Rock (PA) in the first round of the Boardwalk Classic at the Wildwood Convention Center, while Long Branch’s girls were to take on host West Windsor North in the quarterfinals of the War of the Worlds Holiday Tournament.
When the Bayshore Holiday Tournament resumes later today, the top-seeded Monmouth Golden Falcons will take on Howell in a semifinal after knocking off Matawan, 63-8, on Tuesday in the quarterfinals. In the other semifinal, Holmdel (a 73-42 winner over Red Bank Regional on Tuesday) will face Cardinal McCarrick, who topped Shore Regional, 59-54 in the quarterfinals.
Meanwhile, in the WOBM Tournament, the top-seeded Rumson-Fair Haven Bulldogs topped Wall, 36-18, on Tuesday to reach the semifinals, where they will face Manchester tonight at 6:15 p.m.
Ocean’s girls also won on Tuesday, beating TR South in their WOBM consolation game to improve to 3-2 in the young season.
