Public hearing on salary ordinance Dec. 29

Long B
LONG BRANCH — The City Council will hold a special meeting next Friday to vote on an ordinance to establish salaries of city employees for the year 2006.

The salary ordinance will set minimum and maximum salaries of certain municipal positions, according to Ordinance 40.

Among the salary ranges set is that of the city business administrator, which ranges from $45,000 to a maximum of $127,000.

Other salary ranges in the ordinance include: chief financial officer, $40,000 to $152,000; director of public works, $25,000 to $92,130; director of public works; and director of public safety, $35,000 to $140,921.

The ordinance was introduced at the Dec. 12 council meeting and the public hearing is scheduled to be held at the council meeting on Dec. 26.

City Attorney James Aaron explained that council members Anthony Giordano and Brian Unger will not be present at next Tuesday’s meeting but will be able to vote on the ordinance.

“Ordinance 40 will have a public hearing on [Dec.] 26,” Aaron said. “And copies of the minutes will be transacted by the clerk and sent to the council persons [not in attendance].

“This will entitle them to vote one way or another on [Dec.] 29,” Aaron said.

The two council members will also not be in attendance at the special Friday meeting, but will vote through a conference call, according to Aaron.
