| RED BANK — Wedding bells were ringing at Riverview Medical Center on Saturday, Dec. 9, when Rob Monto and Ginny Klug said “I do” amid a room filled with loved ones and hospital staff members.
While watching their children get married was a special moment for both sets of parents, it was especially meaningful to the groom’s mother, Marie Monto, who had been hospitalized for the past several weeks.
When it became clear that she was too ill to leave the hospital to attend her son’s wedding, the family approached Riverview’s staff and asked if a ceremony could be held at the medical center so Marie Monto could be part of the special occasion.
Maureen Bracher, R.N., nurse manager of the patient care unit, had just a few days to pull the event together, but knew the hospital family would make every effort to make it a day to remember for the Eatontown family.
The solarium on the patient floor, which overlooks the Navesink River, was decorated in the bridal color scheme of red and white flowers and silver bells for the wedding. Staff arranged to have a wedding cake and sparkling cider for the couple’s first toast as bride and groom. Even a local flower shop, Riverview Garden Florist, pitched in by lending two pillars to help create a formal setting.
At noon, family and friends gathered in the solarium and watched as the bride-to-be walk down the aisle and the couple exchange vows before the Rev. Anthony Pesta.
Among the tears was laughter and a special appreciation of being among loved ones. For Riverview’s staff, it was equally moving.
“We’ve really gotten to know Marie, Bob and their children,” said Bracher. “We consider them part of the Riverview family, and it was a pleasure to share this wonderful day with them.”
