Taxpayers want say on beach club

I am writing this letter to thank the many people who took time off to pass a petition to let the governing body, mainly Mayor Sue Howard and Jim Cunniff, know that the taxpayers want a say in how $2.8 million of their money is spent.

Howard and Cunniff claim the money spent will not come from the taxpayers. That is not a true statement. I have been a member of the Monmouth Beach Club for 35 years. The increases prepared by them will make my cost double. Last time I looked, I am a taxpayer; doesn’t that mean that either way it comes out of my pocket?

The pavilion does need repairs but almost $3 million seems like a waste of taxpayers’ money.

Yes, Howard and Cunniff, it still will be an increase to the taxpayer to join the beach club. Why such major changes? As public servants they should be thinking of ways to save money, not overspend it.
