Probe of student's death continues
Authorities do not suspect foul play was involved
BY SUE MORGAN

WEST LONG BRANCH - County investigators are still trying to determine what caused the sudden death of a Monmouth University female student who reportedly passed away in her dormitory room on Halloween night.

As of Tuesday, the Monmouth County Prosecutor's Office was still awaiting the results of toxicology tests conducted on the deceased student, Jessica Blain, 20, shortly after her passing, according to Assistant Prosecutor Peter Warshaw.

The results of those tests usually take about six to eight weeks to be processed and returned to authorities, Warshaw said.

County investigators and campus police officers immediately responded to the unidentified residence hall after the student from Monroe, N.Y., was found unconscious in her bed by her roommate at about 9 p.m. on Oct. 31. Foul play is not suspected in Blain's death, according to university officials, who based their information on reports from law enforcement authorities.

After Blain was confirmed dead, Monmouth University President Paul G. Gaffney II released a statement extending the school's sympathies to the student's family and friends.

On-campus counseling services have also been made available for students and any other members of the campus community dealing with the incident, according to university officials.
