Unger takes oath as councilman

CHRISTINE VARNO Councilman Brian Unger at his swearing in.
LONG BRANCH - Councilman-elect Brian Unger was sworn in to office at city hall on Nov. 22 by City Clerk Irene Joline.

"It is great to be here today," Unger said to some 30 supporters who gathered in council chambers last week as he took the oath of office.

"I vow today to stand for your issues," Unger said. "I am committed to you."

Unger won election to the seat held for just over two months by Jackeline Biddle, who was appointed by the City Council to fill the seat left vacant by the resignation of John "Fazz" Zambrano until the November election.

Zambrano resigned after pleading guilty to extortion in July.

Unger drew 1,836 votes to Biddle's 1,157 in the municipal election.

A resident of the Elberon section of the city, Unger is a public relations consultant and a doctoral candidate at the City University of New York.
