Call for sculptors The Shore Institute of the Contemporary Arts (SICA) in Long Branch has issued a call to artists. SICA is creating a sculpture park throughout the downtown area of the city of Long Branch, the promenade along the Atlantic Ocean and in Pier Village. There will be over 50 highly visible outdoor locations for the installation of outdoor sculpture, such as parks and open spaces, downtown sidewalks and the sides of buildings for relief sculpture. The artists participating in this annual event will be solicited nationwide to compete for the opportunity to have their work displayed in Long Branch and viewed by thousands of visitors. Maps showing the specific locations where these works will be on view will be available at SICA as well as many other locations. Information about the artists as well as information about the site sponsors of the park will also be available on the Web site. There will be a limited number of stipends available for the selected artists. The grand opening of this urban sculpture park is planned for May 5, to be in conjunction with an all-encompassing sculpture festival called SCULPT! Deadline for all submissions is Jan. 5. The selected artists will be announced Feb. 5, and installations can begin April 2. The outdoor exhibition runs May 5 through Oct. 14. Jurors for this exhibition are Rocio Aranda-Alvarado, curator, Jersey City Museum, Dr. Donald Rothfeld, art collector, Gae Savannah, sculptor and critic. SICA is located at 20 Third Ave. For more information, visit www.sica.org or call (732) 263-1121.
