Claire and Adam Boren, Rumson, will be honored Nov. 16 at the 15th Annual Testimonial Dinner of the Center for Holocaust Studies at Brookdale Community College. The Borens are both survivors of the Holocaust. Adam Boren participated in the Warsaw Ghetto Uprising and survived Majdanek, Auschwitz and Sachsenhausen concentration camps and a death march before his liberation in May 1945. With regret, the Eatontown Borough Council accepted the resignation of Mildred Magathan from the town's Zoning Board of Adjustment during its Oct. 25 meeting.

In accepting Magathan's resignation, both Mayor Gerald J. Tarantolo and Council President Theodore F. Lewis Jr. praised Magathan, a longtime volunteer on the board and a Bendix retiree for her dedication and service. Magathan will be recognized publicly for her contributions to the borough at a forthcoming council meeting.

The Ocean Township Historical Museum will host its annual December exhibit Dec. 2 and 3 from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. This year's theme is "The Roaring Twenties" and the exhibit explores the cultural, political, technological and social themes of this fascinating time - from the start of Prohibition to the market crash. It reveals how our the township reflected the trends.

There will be handmade crafts and home-baked goodies for sale, and this year's beautiful quilt, handmade by museum quilters will be raffled off on Sunday. Admission is $1 for adults, and children will be admitted free.

The Salvation Army's annual Red Kettle campaign will begin Nov. 18.

"Operation Helmet," a Texas-based group that supplies free helmet kit upgrades to soldiers stationed in Iraq and Afghanistan, will benefit from a special Mary Kay Cosmetics sales event set for this Saturday from 2:30 to 6:30 p.m. at My Kitchen Witch Cafe, 29 Beach Road, Monmouth Beach.

Beauty, skincare products and gifts will be sold at the cafe with proceeds going to Operation Helmet, which is supported entirely by public donations. The event is open to the public and complimentary beverages and snacks will be served. The Fort Monmouth Economic Revitalization Planning Authority (FMERPA) will hold its regular monthly meeting next Thursday at 7 p.m. in Eatontown Borough Hall, 47 Broad St.

The public is invited to the meeting of the authority, the state-sanctioned entity that is overseeing future uses of Fort Monmouth after it closes in September 2011.
