'Murmurings' by Salvi

Fire in the Lake

An autumn exhibition of new abstract paintings by Monmouth Beach artist John Salvi opened this week at Cask 591 restaurant and lounge in Long Branch.

Titled "Murmurings," the show is composed of large and small expressionistic acrylic canvases.

The works represent the painter's attempt at capturing the fleeting murmurings of nature's beautiful movements of saturated color over basins of liquid aqua and vaults of sky painted every shade of blue.

"Fire in the Lake," a painting inspired by reflections of flame-orange Canaan lilies dancing on turquoise water, is the centerpiece for the exhibit and was the first painting completed in a plein air painting session in September. This first canvas led to the suite of paintings on view through Nov. 30.

All the paintings in the solo show are inspired by bountiful, natural vistas found throughout Monmouth County.

An artist's reception will be held Friday 7-9 p.m. at Cask 591, 591 Broadway, Long Branch. All are welcome.
