Burglaries linked to runaway
BY CHRISTINE VARNO
Staff Writer

LONG BRANCH -- A city juvenile runaway was arrested last week after allegedly burglarizing five homes.

On Oct. 19 at approximately 3:45 a.m., a Bath Avenue resident awoke to find a prowler in her bedroom, according to police reports.

The male teen allegedly removed several items from the residence and fled the scene, according to police.

Almost an hour later, police located a male juvenile fitting the description given by the victim and attempted to detain him.

The suspect was able to avoid the officers in a foot pursuit, police said.

An investigation by Detective Charles Simonelli and Officers Juan E. Vasquez, Michael Decker and Ed Hennelly lead to a positive identification of the suspect, who was located and arrested, according to police reports.

Further investigation into the crime resulted in linking the juvenile to four other home burglaries, police said.

Several items were located and returned to the victims and the juvenile was detained at the Youth Detention Center in Freehold Township.
