Postal worker reports shooters

OCEAN TOWNSHIP - Two teenagers were arrested recently in Ocean Township and charged with possession of a weapon for unlawful purposes.

On Oct. 11 at 3:10 p.m., Township of Ocean Police received a call from a postal service worker reporting that someone shot a pellet gun from a passing vehicle at a house on South Edgemere Drive and at the postal truck the worker was driving.

According to police, the postal worker was not injured, but managed to obtain the license plate of the vehicle before it left the area. The vehicle was located a short time later by the Allenhurst police.

A 15-year-old male from Ocean Township and 19-year-old Daniel Beegle, Allenhurst, were taken into custody by the Allenhurst police. They were both then turned over to the Ocean Township police for processing and charges. A handgun-type pellet gun and a container of pellets were also confiscated from inside the vehicle.

The 15-year-old male was charged with possession of a weapon for unlawful purposes and unlawful possession of a weapon. He was released to his parents. The 19-year-old male was charged with possession of a weapon for unlawful purposes. He was released on a criminal summons.

Police also seized a 2004 Ford Explorer used to commit a crime pursuant to state forfeiture guidelines.
