Bids sought for Elberon School site remediation
BY CHRISTINE VARNO
Staff Writer

LONG BRANCH - The Long Branch Board of Education has gone out to bid for a soil remediation and disposal project at the Elberon School on Park Avenue.

The project will include the cleaning and clearing of contaminated soil and landfill debris at two locations at the school's site, according to Peter E. Genovese III, the Long Branch Public School District business administrator.

The board began soliciting bids on Oct. 6 for the excavation and replenishment of clean fill to remediate the areas that have been contaminated with historical fill, lumber and concrete, according to Genovese.

It appears that landfill overflowed onto the Elberon school property from years of dumping at another site, Genovese said Tuesday.

The project will be awarded in mid-November, Genovese said, adding that he anticipates the project to be completed by the end of November.

A walk-through inspection of the site is scheduled for today at 11 a.m. for prospective bidders to investigate the area, Genovese said.
