CPC Culinary Adventure Oct. 23

CPC Behavioral Healthcare of Middletown will host a Culinary Adventure fundraiser on Oct. 23 at The Sheraton in Eatontown. The wine- and food-tasting event will be kicked off by a live cooking show by cajun Chef Scott Landry.

More than 25 restaurants will serve up a gourmet tasting of their signature dishes.

The event will also feature CPC's annual quilt raffle, lavish silent and gift auctions, plus live music by Dave Miller, of Long Branch.

The Scott Landry Cooking Show will be held from 5:50-6:30 p.m. The food- and wine-tasting party will be held from 6-9 p.m. Advance registration is recommended; walk-ins will be accommodated on a space-available basis. Tickets for both events are $90. For the tasting only $70.

Fall term classes begin Oct. 12 at Brookdale

Brookdale Community College, Lincroft section of Middletown, has announced its 10-week fall term classes will begin Oct. 12 and run through Dec. 22. A list of courses is online at www.brookdalecc.edu. For more information, call recruitment services at (732) 224-1857.

Register for Let's Talk Adoption by Oct. 20

Concerned Persons for Adoption will sponsoring the 25th annual "Let's Talk Adoption" conference Nov. from 8 a.m.-5 p.m. at Rutgers University, Busch Campus Center, Piscataway.

The conference will features workshops for pre- and post-adoptive parents, social workers, teachers and adoptees. Keynote speaker will be Debbie Riley, author of "Beneath the Mask: Understanding Adopted Teens." Exhibitors will include New Jersey licensed adoption agencies, and vendors offering books on adoption topics. New Jersey and Pennsylvania licensed social workers and New Jersey teachers may also receive continuing education hours credit for attending.

Cost is $35 per person, and $60 per couple before Oct. 20, and $40 and $70, respectively after Oct. 20./ Fee for full-time students is $20. For more information, call (908) 273-5694 or visit www.cpfanj.org.

Conservation scholarship deadline is Oct. 23

The New Jersey Association of Conservation Districts will accept applications through Oct. 23 for two $1,000 Memorial Conservation scholarships to be awarded in November.

To apply, an applicant must be a New Jersey resident, a full-time student in good standing at an accredited college, have successfully completed at least four full semesters of study by the fall of 2006, and be an undergraduate enrolled in a major curriculum of agriculture or natural resource conservation, including agricultural education, agronomy, environmental engineering, environmental science, forestry, geography, journalism, plant science, soil science, wildlife or fisheries management and other related majors.

Annual Thompson

Park Day Oct. 15

The Monmouth County Park System will hold its annual Thompson Park Day Oct. 15 from 11 a.m.-5 p.m. at the park at 805 Newman Springs Road, Lincroft section of Middletown.

The event will feature activities such as an "amazing maize maze," climbing wall, wagon rides and pumpkin painting. There will also be golf evaluations, various foods, a children's costume parade, scarecrow contest, and arts and crafts. Children's races feature a diaper derby, tot trot, pee wee run, and sack races.

Friends of the Parks will hold a "Strut Your Mutt" doggie costume contest. Entertainment will be provided by the Navesink Brass, and Project Packman, and there will also be a magic show, stiltwalker, puppet lady, and Macaroni Anne Cheeze.

AARP driver safety program Oct. 23, 30

HealthSouth Rehabilitation Hospital of Tinton Falls, 2 Centre Plaza, will host an AARP driver safety program Oct. 23 and 30 from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m.

Upon completion of the course, students receive a certificate of completion entitling the student to a 5 percent discount on the major portion of automobile insurance for three years. To remain eligible, students must repeat the course every three years. If applicable, two points will be deducted from the student's motor vehicle record. Attendance at both sessions is required to receive full credit for the course.
