Group of underage drinkers arrested

OCEAN TOWNSHIP - Township police have arrested a number of Monmouth University students for drinking.

On Sept. 17 at 12:29 a.m., officers were dispatched to a residence on Garfield Avenue in the Oakhurst section of town in reference to a loud party. Upon arrival, officers found a large group of young people at the residence making noise and drinking beer from cups, bottles and cans.

Further investigation revealed that everyone in the group was under 21. According to police, the four accused renters of the house, who attend Monmouth University, were taken into custody, charged with providing alcoholic beverages to persons under the legal age and issued noise ordinance violations.

They were processed at police headquarters and released. In addition, six juveniles, all age 17, were taken into custody for consuming alcoholic beverages while under the legal age and later released to a respective parent. Seven other adult individuals under age 21 were issued a township ordinance violation for consuming alcoholic beverages on private property while under the legal age. They were all subsequently released at the scene.
