Police probing 18 car burglaries

EATONTOWN - Borough police are investigating a rash of burglaries to as many as 18 vehicles parked in two separate locations on Saturday, Aug. 19.

Though no arrests have been made to date, some of the personal belongings and valuables removed from some of the vehicles have been recovered, according to Detective Sgt. Thomas C. Clayton of the Eatontown police.

Xenon headlights were also taken off some of the vehicles that could be classified as luxury cars, Clayton said in a press release.

Nine of the 18 vehicles burglarized were parked outside the Sheraton at Route 35 and Industrial Way East, police said.

Another vehicle was broken into while it was parked outside the Staybridge Suites adjacent to the Sheraton, police said.

Two additional vehicles were burglarized while parked in the lot of Westward Pharmaceuticals, also located nearby on Industrial Way East

In addition, six vehicles parked at Monmouth Mall, Routes 35 and 36, were also broken into, police reported.

Later on Saturday, Eatontown police responded to a report of suspicious activity outside a Wyckoff Road shopping center. Some of the stolen items were recovered from that location, though no suspects were taken into custody, Clayton said.

Anyone who witnessed suspicious activity pertaining to the break-ins is asked to contact Detective Kenneth Kleinman of the Eatontown Police Department at (732) 542-0100.
