New music flutist in concert Jan 19

Patti Monson
The Black Box will continue its monthly concert series “The Music of Invention” on Jan. 19 at 8 p.m. with innovative flutist Patti Monson.

Monson will perform: Kaija Saariaho, “Noa Noa” for flute and electronics; Eric Moe, “Let Me Tell You About Our Specials” for flute and electronics, C.P.E. Bach, “Sonata in A minor” for solo flute, Elizabeth Brown, “Antarctica” for alto flute and prerecorded sounds, Robert Dick, “Fish Are Jumping” for solo flute.

Monson is a frequent guest artist in many recital series dedicated to new music, and has been invited to give master classes on contemporary repertoire and extended sounds at universities and conservatories around the world.

The “Music of Invention” series highlights an experimental artist or group each month, specializing in performers who are creating music across cultural or stylistic boundaries.

All concerts are at 8 p.m. on the third Thursday of each month at the Shore Institute of the Contemporary Arts (SICA), 20 Third Ave., Long Branch. Admission is $10/$8 students and seniors.

For more information, call (732) 988-6337 (Black Box) or (732) 263-1121 (SICA) or visit www.asburyparkblackbox.org or www.sica.org.
