Owners warned to leash dogs

Animal control officers responded to a Long Branch police call on Dec. 27 from a resident in West End whose dog was reportedly attacked by a stray pitbull while being walked on a leash.

Long Branch animal control officers picked up the pitbull and have issued summonses to the owner for permitting the dog to run at large and for not having a license. Due to the nature of the attack, the owners will also receive a summons in Long Branch Municipal Court for having a dangerous dog.

Owners of dogs are cautioned that all animals must be leashed when off their property and failure to do so may result in a summons.
