The Long Branch Veterans Day celebration will take place tomorrow at 10 a.m. at Jerry Morgan Park on Long Branch Avenue where there will be a ribbon cutting for the Veterans Memorial. At 11 a.m., the ceremony will move to city hall on Broadway where the Long Branch School District Veterans Day Essay Contest winners will be announced. This year’s winner is fifth-grader Daniela Ibanez, of the West End School, who will read her essay. The ceremony will conclude with an open house at the V.F.W. on Willow Avenue.

Interiors by Rita on Ocean Avenue will host an art show featuring works by 100 artists, from traditional to transitional to contemporary, on Nov. 18 from 7 to 9:30 p.m. and Nov. 19 from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m.

The Long Branch Chamber of Commerce will host an antiques and collectibles show on Dec. 3 from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. and Dec. 4 from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. at Shore Regional High School in West Long Branch.

On Nov. 10, Gimbel Lehy-Quirk Post 2226 of the Veterans of Foreign Wars will host its annual Marine Corps Birthday Party to celebrate the 213th anniversary of the establishment of “The Corps.”

The party will run from 5-8 p.m. in the Post Canteen, 212 Norwood Ave., Oakhurst. Cake and coffee will be served and a cash bar will be available. Veterans and members of all the armed services are invited to attend.

The Greater Ocean Township Chamber of Commerce will hold its bimonthly business meeting and breakfast on Friday, Nov. 18, 8:30-10 a.m. The guest speaker will be Richard Wiener, from the Center for Leadership Development. Admission for the meeting, which will be held in the Culinary Education Center, 101 Drury Lane, Asbury Park, is $8 with a reservation and $5 extra for walk-ins without a reservation. Pediatricians at the Monmouth Family Health Center on Broadway in Long Branch joined with Reach Out & Read and AmeriChoice on Monday to launch a program to provide free books to their youngest patients during health checkups.

The program trains doctors and nurses to advise parents about the importance of reading aloud and to give books to children at health checkups from 6 months to 5 years, with a special focus on children growing up in poverty.

The city of Long Branch and Pier Village will host a Holiday Extravaganza on the Boardwalk of Festival Plaza at Pier Village on Nov. 26 from 4 p.m. to 6 p.m. The event will feature Tim McLoone of Holiday Express in concert.

A tree lighting will take place, and Santa will be the honored guest in a North Pole setting.
