Arts group raises funds to purchase building

The Arts Coalition of Asbury Park (ArtsCap) is raising funds to purchase the historic Kinmonth Building at 710 Mattison Ave. The circa-1911 building houses the Savoy Theatre.

ArtsCap hopes to restore the theater and use the building as a community center with office space, a senior center, film center, artists studios, rehearsal space, children’s art programs and other purposes. The group must raise the $250,000 down payment by Oct. 19.

ArtsCap is seeking 250 people to donate $1,000 or more, but any and all contributions are appreciated.

A fund-raiser, “Wine and Lite-fare, Save the Savoy” will be held Oct. 15, 6:30-9:30 p.m., at the home of Janice Molloy, 514 Second Ave, Asbury Park. There will be light fare from local restaurants, entertainment, Savoy Theatre memorabilia and ArtsCap representatives on hand to answer questions. R.S.V.P. to Diane@gsff.org since capacity is limited. If you are interested in donating and cannot attend, send donations to ArtsCap, P.O. Box 507, Asbury Park, NJ 07712 and make the check out to ArtsCap.

Donations can also be made through the Web site www.artscap.org. Donations made will be earmarked for this purpose only and returned to the donor if for any reason the $250,000 goal is not met.
