The Ocean Chapter of Drifters Inc. will sponsor the Ebony Fashion Fair on Sept. 17 at Pollak Theatre, Monmouth University in West Long Branch. The show will begin at 8 p.m. and proceeds from the event will benefit the United Negro College Fund and local scholarships.

All ticket prices include a choice of a one-year subscription to Ebony magazine or a six-month subscription to Jet magazine. Tickets are $30 and $15 for students and can be reserved by calling (732) 222-3420, (732) 229-4619 or (732) 431-1210.

On Sunday, Sept. 11, the Monmouth County Park System will sponsor its 22nd annual Sprint Triathlon at Seven Presidents Oceanfront Park, Ocean Avenue in Long Branch.

A Jersey Shore tradition, the Sprint Triathlon consists of a quarter-mile swim, a 13-mile bike ride and a four-mile run. The event will begin at 7:45 a.m. Participants must check in between 6:30-7:30 a.m. For more information, call (732) 542-1642, ext. 23.

Join fellow knitters at the main branch of the Long Branch Library beginning on Sept. 14 at 11 a.m. for a knitting circle that will be held the second Wednesday of each month. Learn, teach or simply share. No prior experience is needed. Bring you own worsted yarn and size 8 needles. The program is free an open to the public. Celebrate National Hispanic/Latino Heritage month at the Long Branch Free Public Library-Main Branch at 328 Broadway. “Fiesta at your Library” will be held on Saturday, Sept. 17, from 1-5 p.m. Tours of the library will be held throughout the day in English, Spanish and Portuguese. At 2 p.m., Christopher Volpe, Long Branch Middle School teacher, will be recognized for his outstanding contribution to the community.

There will be pińata raffles, food, crafts, music and more.

St. Anselm Church, Wayside section of Ocean Township, will restart the Rainbows program on Oct. 12. Sessions will run once a week for six weeks from 6:30 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. every Wednesday.

Rainbows is a support group for children in preschool through eighth grade who are grieving a death, divorce or experiencing any other painful transition in their family. Rainbows provides children with a safe, caring place for sharing and healing.

Members of the Rainbows team will be available after the 9 a.m. and 11 a.m. Masses on Sept. 17 and 24 to explain the program in detail, answer any questions and register children.

On Sept. 17 and 18, Kyle Tighe, a freshman at Red Bank High School, will hold a yard sale at 26 South Arlene Drive in West Long Branch to help raise money for Hurricane Katrina victims.

All the money collected will be sent to Habitat for Humanity to help the victims rebuild their lives and homes. Anyone interested in donating items is asked to bring donations to the address on the dates of the yard sale.

The fifth annual Sea Bright Day will be held tomorrow from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. along Ocean Avenue in downtown Sea Bright in and around the former Peninsula House parking lot.

“Star Power” will feature National Wrestling Superstars legend King Kong Bundy, and the Ladies Auxiliary of the Sea Bright Fire Department will hold a flea market. The Rev. Rob Long, pastor of the Sea Bright United Methodist Church, invites all to bring their family pets for a special “pet blessing” on the beach at 10 a.m. At 10:30 a.m., a free art class open to all will be held on the boardwalk by artists Lizzi Schippert and Sven Widen, of Red Bank.

Used books and fresh baked goods will be sold to benefit the borough library, and mums will be offered for sale by the town’s Beautification Committee. Sea Bright caps, sweats and T-shirts will be sold by the borough’s Public Relations Committee.

Hot dogs, burgers and sodas will be available through the Sea Bright Fire Department and the police department will conduct a bicycle rodeo and obstacle course. Free, inflatable rides for children are offered courtesy of the Sea Bright Recreation Committee.

All-day entertainment and crafts will be followed by a concert by the local band, The Wag at 2 p.m. Free admission and parking are available at the former Peninsula House

Finally at 3:30 p.m. Brahma Yoga will conduct a “Focus on Peace” mediation session on the public beach. All are invited to participate in the free workshop.

Sea Bright’s J.W. Ross Library will hold its annual book sale beginning tomorrow at 9 a.m. and continuing through Sept. 17. The sale will be held inside the library at 1097 Ocean Ave. during regularly scheduled hours: Monday, 10 a.m. to 7:30 p.m., Tuesday 3 p.m. to 7:30 p.m., Wednesday, Thursday and Friday 10 a.m. to 5 p.m., and Saturday 9 a.m. to noon.

The Sea Bright Recreation Program will host its second annual Skimboarding Competition on Saturday, Sept. 17 at the Sea Bright Municipal Beach beginning at 8 a.m. and continuing all day. The event is open to all ages and prizes will be awarded to winners. The $10 registration fee includes lunch, drinks, a T-shirt and other giveaways.
