Car overturns; two arrested

LONG BRANCH — The city police department is investigating a drunk driving accident last week that resulted in an overturned car.

On May 15 at approximately 6:40 p.m., city police received a report of a vehicle at the intersection of Deadly and Harrison streets that was overturned and smoking with passengers trapped inside, according to police reports.

Upon arrival at the scene, officers located an abandoned car and learned that the three or four occupants of the vehicle had fled the scene, according to reports.

Angel Lizaraga, 31, Central Avenue, was the driver of the vehicle and was located on Lafayette Street.

He was arrested and charged with operating a motor vehicle while under the influence of alcohol and leaving the scene of an accident.

Another occupant of the vehicle was also located nearby and was transported to the Jersey Shore University Medical Center in Neptune along with Lizaraga.

Anyone with any information regarding this incident is asked to contact Officers Thomas Hueston or Cesare Simonelli at (732) 222-1000, ext. 5648. All calls will be kept confidential.
