Three area girls receive Girl Scouting Gold Award

The Monmouth Council of Girl Scouts, Farmingdale, recently honored three Girl Scouts from the Oakhurst section of Ocean Township with the Gold Award, the highest earned achievement in Girl Scouting, at the Gold Award Dinner in late May.

The award encompasses five rigorous components which demand efficient organizational, time management and leadership skills. Senior Girl Scouts completing the award are eligible for a variety of educational scholarships including one from the Monmouth Council of Girl Scouts.

Amanda Faulhaber, a 12th-grader at Ocean Township High School, completed her Gold Award project, "Miles of Smiles," to earn the award. Amanda taught younger girls about the free oral surgery procedures performed for disadvantaged children through Operation Smile and what Operation Smile has achieved in developing nations.

Lisa Lombardi, also in grade 12 at Ocean Township High School, completed "No Smoking: The Right Choice" as her project. She provided information to children to help make the right decision about saying no to smoking.

The project of Efrat Tuvy, a 12th-grader at Ocean Township High School, was "Car Smarts," which taught area teenagers about maintenance, safety regulations, purchase prices and other important factors related to cars.
