In the Arts

An art show and sale of works by local artists will be held at Sickles Market, 1 Harrison Ave., Jan. 31, 11 a.m. – 3 p.m. Demonstrations by artists will take place throughout the day.

Artists whose works will be on display include Roberta Clark, portraits and floral water colors; Catherine Dietrich, floral water colors and sketches; Elizabeth Hopkins, jewelry; Doreen Klimkiewicz, cut paper illustrations; Evelyn Levins, multimedia portraits; Jane Lux, watercolor painting; Peter Mitev, fine art photography; Connell Mueller, fruit and vegetable drawings;

Pinky, mixed media one line art; Judith Rae, faux stained glass; Lori Ruggeri botanical paintings; Joan Wouters, strokes and stitches, acrylic and mixed surface; Fro Wollerton, florals, acrylic and mixed surface; and Christina Esposito, children and animals in charcoal. A Filmmakers Symposium will take place at Loews Monmouth Mall on Tuesday evenings beginning Feb. 24. A second session will begin April 8. Confirmed films and those under consideration for the upcoming spring session include "The Clearing" with Robert Redford and Helen Mirren; "Dogville" with Nicole Kidman and James Caan; "Envy" with Ben Stiller and Jack Black; "Final Cut" with Robin Williams and Jim Caviezel; "Godsend" with Robert De Niro and Greg Kinnear; "Hidalgo" with Viggo Mortensen; "Spartan" with Val Kilmer and William H. Macy; and "This So-Called Disaster" with Sean Penn and Sam Shepard. Oscar winners and nominees participate as guest speakers to share their insights with symposium attendees.

The February exhibit theme at the Art Alliance of Monmouth County gallery at 33 Monmouth St. in Red Bank, will be "Nude, Not Naked" and "Cut it Out." Featured in the gallery windows will be abstract colored pencil paintings and pen and ink drawings by Steph Layton. The show will run through March 3.
