Agency launches
program to help elderly

Family and Children’s Service (FCS), Oakhurst section of Ocean Township, has announced the launch of its new Helping Elderly Adults Remain in Their Homes (HEARTH) program, designed to help elderly people maintain their independence by providing volunteer social and emotional support, as well as access to professional in-home counseling.

The program will offer both "companions," senior volunteers available for visits to offer care and conversation, as well as handypersons to perform minor home repairs and assist with errands or paperwork.

HEARTH will also provide in-home counseling to assist older adults and families with issues such as grief counseling, difficult decision-making, chronic illness and marital counseling.

For more information, call Lillian Gordon, director of clinical services, at (732) 531-9111.
