Troop 70 seeking former Scouts for celebration

Mark Wiener, Scoutmaster of Boy Scouts of America Troop 70, Oakhurst section of Ocean Township, is seeking former Scouts to celebrate the troop’s golden anniversary this year. The troop is primarily attempting to track down its Eagle Scouts.

Troop 70 has been meeting at the First United Methodist Church on Monmouth Road for 50 years, and is arranging to tie the past to the present with a celebration. The troop has attracted more than 750 boys, producing 59 Eagle Scouts.

The troop would like to hear from individuals who were Scouts in Troop 70, or know the whereabouts of a Scout from the troop. Individuals may call Mark Wiener at (201) 828-3689 or e-mail him at mwiener@ups.com.

Donations sought for disaster relief fund

The American Red Cross of Central New Jersey is appealing to the community for donations to replenish its Disaster Relief Fund to an adequate level so the Red Cross can continue to respond immediately to the critical needs of communities devastated by disasters.

The Fund — which is not a reserve — is dangerously low at the national level, according to a press release. The working fund enables the Red Cross to respond to disasters anywhere and anytime. According to the agency, severe weather continues to plague the country, and hurricane season is just weeks away.
