Rumson doctor honored with AHA award

John B. Checton, M.D., chief of cardiology at Monmouth Medical Center, Long Branch, has been awarded the Distinguished Achievement Award in Cardiology Practice from the American Heart Association (AHA) Monmouth County. The award will be presented at the AHA’s "Heart Rock Café" June 14 at 6 p.m. at the Sheraton Eatontown Hotel and Conference Center.

A resident of Rumson, Checton has been the director of the noninvasive cardiovascular lab at Monmouth since 1984, and co-director of cardiology since 1985. He was named director of the center’s cardiac catheterization lab in 1997, and is also an attending physician at Jersey Shore Medical Center, Neptune.

A partner in Monmouth Cardiology Associates, Ocean, Freehold and Long Branch, Checton is board certified in internal medicine, cardiovascular disease and critical medicine. He is a Fellow of the American College of Cardiology, the AHA, and the American College of Chest Physicians. He is also a clinical assistant instructor at Hahnemann University School of Medicine, Philadelphia.
